Finance and Business started the year by creating our core values that continues to guide the committee in all our efforts and the decisions that we make. These values include; Accessibility, Accountability, and Advancement. Here are ways in which we’ve done that so far.

Accessibility
-Myself and Alex Muro gave several Authorized Signer Workshops during the OSL retreat and had over 200 people attend.
-Myself, our advisor and the Creative Media Unit have made a new poster with the steps on how to present to Finance and Business and receive funding.
-I’ve updated the website to have updated minutes. The website has been updated to be more accessible, user-friendly, and transparent.
-I will be sending out bulk emails so that every eligible student organization on campus will be aware that they’re entitled to our services.
-We have funded 70+ campus organizations from various mission statements who are doing a variety of work across campus

Accountability
-We will be asking all A.S. entities to submit Fall expenditure reports so we can create uniform and accessible graphics of where student fees are going.
-We have new members of our committee including three new financial officers, one new Senator, and four new A.S. Fellows
-We have a Vice Chair who stepped down and a new Vice Chair Christian Ornelas
-We have developed a standardized assessment for the committee to determine eligibility for funds that uniform for the sake of fairness and equity.
-As chair, I’ve made weekly financial reports that detail each group we fund for their various requests

Something I’ve been realizing as chair is how respect works; how to get a board of senators and finance officers and people who don’t know me to respect me and the work I’m doing. It’s made me realize how many boundaries I have to get over in order to receive that respect that is so often easily given to people with more privileges than myself, things out of my control. I’ve been growing and learning so much from this position and I’ve been analyzing what exact factors lead to people giving others respect, especially when it comes to respect over whose voice is heard. As a Black queer femme person, who happens to be nice, and polite, and have a sweet voice I’m understanding that I deserve respect despite the way that I’m often treated; which is something I don’t expect you all to understand. I deserve respect because of my work, because the boundaries I set, and because I’m a person. Apart from all of that, that I felt the need to say; it has been such an honor serving as a senator and serving as the chair of Finance and Business. Thanks for your time and consideration.
